Falmouth Town Meeting Denies Wind Energy Developer's Request

Falmouth Town Meeting denied a wind energy company access to public land for soil testing and engineering studies.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth Town Meeting recently voted to deny a step toward a wind energy project, according to The Cape Cod News. Town meeting rejected a request by SouthCoast Wind Energy LLC for access to public lands in Falmouth Heights for soil testing and engineering studies.

Supporters said approving the measure wouldn't necessarily lead to approving SouthCoast's project. However, opponents said the developer's representative has not addressed the community's questions.

SouthCoast Wind is planning to build up to 149 wind turbines in federal waters. The company is proposing to landfall one of two electric cables on public land in Falmouth Heights, The Cape Cod News reported.

Residents are upset with the company's choice and believe it should find a more appropriate site.
