Falmouth Wind Turbines 10 Year Impact

Wind turbine energy is considered ‘green’ and good for the environment, it does not mean it will be good for the health and safety of residents living around the turbines. Wind energy neighbors can be exposed to hazards such as two types of noise called infra-sound and regulatory noise measured in decibels. '

The neighbors of megawatt wind turbines worldwide describe the infra-sound frequencies as a feeling throughout their bodies. The turbines also at sunset and sunrise cast a strobe effect of the sun passing through the blades into neighbors' homes.

Today in 2020 acousticians consider you a neighbor if you live 3000 feet from a one-megawatt turbine about a little over a half-mile.

Residents since the 1970s in Boone, North Carolina, and now worldwide have experienced symptoms that include decreased quality of life, annoyance, stress, sleep disturbance, headache, anxiety, depression, and cognitive dysfunction.

The United States Department of Energy conducted studies in the 1980s at Boone, North Carolina confirming infra-sound from wind turbines.

Politicians with the green agenda of 2000 megawatts of commercial wind power by the year 2020 ignored all the health and safety warnings with only 130 megawatts of land-based wind power installed statewide today. The wind turbine halt in Massachusetts land-based power is due to published peer-reviewed comprehensive information prepared by medical doctors, pathologists, and engineers strongly warning of major physiological consequences of living too close to industrial wind turbines.

In 2005 the Town of Falmouth had a study done by KEMA Inc. using a domestic General Electric 1.5 megawatt wind turbine. The study concluded that up to 99 residents around one turbine would be affected by noise and the town has to file special permits notifying neighbors. General Electric in 2008 refused to place one wind turbine.

The Town of Falmouth after the refusal of General Electric undertook a Wind Energy Project that consists of two foreign-made Vestas V-82 turbines known as Wind I and Wind II each twice as loud as the GE turbine. They were installed in 2010 and 2012.

The turbines at 110 decibels each for a total of 113 decibels operated at Falmouth’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) off Blacksmith Shop Road until the courts shut down the nuisance in June of 2017

Despite the 2005 KEMA Inc report, Falmouth has worked with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on this failed catastrophic project.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required a waiver to use 5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to build Falmouth Wind II the second foreign-made turbine.

The Town of Falmouth in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waiver dated Apr 27, 2010, stated the Town of Falmouth will file Special Permit 240-166.

One of the most frequently asked about wind power and Falmouth’s wind turbine installation is how the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowed the 5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to the Town of Falmouth with no permits.

Falmouth Wind II has not been an energy-efficient project since 2017 and still owes the 5 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act loan back to the State Revolving Fund to go back out to other worthwhile green projects.
