Former Falmouth High Basketball Star Becomes NFL Team Doctor

FALMOUTH, MA — Lani Lawrence, a former Falmouth High School basketball star, has accomplished a lot. She made her mark playing in college at Northeastern University, in the pros in Holland and eventually as a doctor specializing in sports psychology.

And now, Dr. Lawrence is a wellness doctor in the NFL for the New York Giants. The Giants hired Lawrence as their full-time wellness director. She told the Falmouth Enterprise she also took an NBA interview with the Toronto Raptors, but being closer to home was a big factor in her taking the Giants job. Lawrence said she also has family in New York, while her family still lives on Cape Cod.

Lawrence told the Falmouth Enterprise what excites her most about her job is helping players, coaches and office staff navigate their way through challenges from the coronavirus pandemic.

"Since I took the job, there’s been a lot that’s happened, with COVID and racial injustice, whether or not the season was going to start at all," Lawrence said. "It's a lot to process, but I'm honored to be a part of this organization and to do my part."
