‘Golden Hour’ Features 70 Works By Local Artists

The golden hour is a phrase used by photographers to describe the time of early evening when the light is soft and at its best for photography. The Falmouth Art Center’s new show, “The Golden Hour,” includes many photographs but also a wide variety of other mediums including stained glass, fiber and collage, in which artists capture this special light.

There are more than 70 works by local artists in the show. Photographers in the show include Greg Anderson of Buzzards Bay; Jeannine Lavoie of Bourne; Jay Phyfer of Cotuit; Richard Tranfaglia of Southborough; and Emily Ferguson, Peter Partridge, Walter Knox, Nadine Krasnow, Muriel Locklin, Milt Williamson and David E. Williamson of Falmouth.

Fiber works have been submitted by Christine Anderson of Cotuit, Liz Henry of Pocasset, and Susanne Brown and Debbie Watson of Falmouth. Stained glass pieces are by Paul Hughes of Martha’s Vineyard and Frances Merton of Centerville.

Among the paintings are works by longtime Falmouth Art Center members Jim Bowen, Dale Schimmel, Richard Ferreira and Linda Farmer of Bourne; Sally Casper of Boston; Betsy Payne Cook and Bill Noble of Mashpee; Catherine Cetta, Marian Colman, Peter Daley, Herb Edwards, Mary Lou Harwood and Sigrid Hecker of North Falmouth; and Doreen Kelly, Carol Knox, Diana Lee, Ruth Leech, Peter Morrison and Linda Walker of Falmouth.

The show also includes works by Kim Bianchini of Braintree; Joyce Caggiano of Milton; Joyce Dwyer, Lisa Errico, Anne O’Connor, Ashley Heaton and Shelly McDermott of Mashpee; Dunya McPherson of Woods Hole; Walter Basnight, Ed Norton, Joan Vaugh and Beth Rockwell of East Falmouth; and Marie St. Hilaire of Sandwich.

There are also works by newer members including Sandra Buono, Robert Golder and Carlos Ponce of East Falmouth, and Mary Hunt of Needham.

The show will be on view in the art center’s Hermann Gallery through February 28.
