Great White Shark Hits Buzzards Bay

A shark swam up to a father and son while they were on their boat Sunday afternoon.

BUZZARDS BAY, MA – A father and son got up close to a great white shark in Buzzards Bay Sunday afternoon. David Cody and his son, Paul, were about 100 yards off Penikese Island when the shark swam up to their boat, according to WCVB.

"It was big. It looked big to us," David Cody told the network. An expert from the New England Aquarium confirmed that the shark in the video was a great white, the Boston Globe reported.

Sunday's sighting was the latest in a series of close encounters off Cape Cod that have forced beaches to close this summer. Earlier this month, a 61-year-old man was bitten near Long Nook Beach in Truro.
