Hockey Player Allegedly Spat On, Called Racial Slur By Opponents

A Wareham hockey player was purportedly targeted by two players from Old Rochester Regional High School.

WAREHAM, MA – A Wareham hockey player was purportedly targeted by two members of the opposing team during a game Sunday night, according to reports. The 16-year-old was allegedly called a racial slur by one player from Old Rochester Regional High School and then spat on by a different player.

Quirino DoCanto, a Wareham teacher and the player's father, wrote on Facebook that "a couple terrible decisions made by two individuals took away from the fact, it was actually a great hockey game." He also discouraged threats toward anyone involved.

Old Rochester Superintendent Douglas White told media outlets the district is investigating the allegations, which he called "deeply disturbing and wholly inconsistent with the high standards of behavior demanded of our student-athletes."
