Library Invites Teens to Henna Workshop
Learning about the ancient pigment is free next Thursday.

The announced recently that it will be hosting a workshop on the uses and benefits of henna, the natural dye used for thousands of years to color hair, skin, fingernails, and all manner of objects. takes place at the library on Thursday, June 28, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The event is free, and open to anyone between the ages of 12 and 18.
In a press release, the library quotes from Carine Fabius' book Mehndi (another word for henna): “Practiced for five thousand years throughout India, Africa, and the Middle East, the act of painting the body with preparations made from the crushed leaves of the henna plant, whether it be in preparation for a special occasion or in celebration of a particular event, has always been done with the assumption or fervent wish that the act would engender good fortune, happy results and good feelings.”
Included in the workshop is a piece of body art for all participants, done by Heather herself, which can be anything from a traditional symbol, to a modern design, to the teen's own creation.
