Massachusetts Whale Deaths Mount

The latest whale death was in the New Bedford Ocean wind turbine port on July 3, 2023

Suggested causes of whale deaths have included being hit by a ship, bacteria, climate change, and unknown.

Ocean wind turbine sonar-related injuries and pile driving deafening the whales are almost never considered.

Whales and other ocean mammals need to be protected from the adverse effects of sonar, which can cause brain hemorrhage and death.

Whales and other marine animals rely largely on hearing to complete life functions, including orientation and communication. The bottom line is a deaf whale is a dead whale causing ship strikes and strandings.

The top federal watchdog agency, Government Accountability Office is opening an investigation into the impacts of offshore wind on development and an uptick in marine wildlife deaths.
