Missing Falmouth Man's Body Found Off Shore Of Maine Lake

James Fulginiti, 64, was found off the shore ​of Little Beaver Pond in Oxford, Maine. His body was found about 200 yards from his campsite.

FALMOUTH, MA — The body of a missing Falmouth man was found on the shores a remote lake in Maine, according to officials.

James Fulginiti, 64, was found around 2:30 p.m., Saturday off the shore of Little Beaver Pond in Oxford, Maine, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said. Fulginiti had not been seen by friends for several days, the department said in a statement.

According to officials, a local campground owner drove a boat to Fulginiti's boat-accessible only campground and found his dog alone. Officials said Fulginiti's boat was stuck in the mud inside a nearby cove.

There was no sign of Fulginiti, and the department said it appeared the dog had been left alone for several days.

Gamer wardens were called in to search the area and found Fulginiti's body about four hours later. Officials said his body was about 200 yards from where he set up camp.

Department officials said it was likely Fulginiti's boat broke free from his camp and drifted over to the shore The boat was stuck in shallow water and mud about 70 feet from shore. Officials believe the man walked along the pond in an attempt to retrieve his boat.

The Maine State Medical Examiner's office will work to determine the exact cause of death.
