According to a traffic counter, the average daily summer traffic on route 28 south of the Otis Rotary is 37,927 or about 40,000 vehicles per day.

During the three summer months, about 3,600,000 vehicles pass by the legally shut downwind Falmouth wind turbines.

Prior to the construction of the Falmouth wind turbines in 2010 and 2012 advocates said the turbines will boost local tourism and the town was urged to take advantage of the sight of green energy at its best. It was stated tours of wind turbines are popular especially with young people.
You won't find the Falmouth turbines appearing in any tourism advertisements, especially on Cape Cod.

The Falmouth wind turbines both Vestas V-82 type 1.65 megawatt wind turbines at the Wastewater Treatment Plant can be seen from Route 28. The turbines have been abandoned since they were shut down by the courts in June of 2017.

Believe or not 5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds were used to build the foreign-made turbines after General Electric a domestic wind company refused to place one wind turbine due to residential setbacks.

Many ask how could the federal EPA, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection allowed a waiver to buy a foreign wind turbine after General Electric a domestic company refused. There is no Massachusetts legislation to allow the town to partner with another municipality or private enterprise and go into the wind turbine business.
