Older Man Found Dead After Falmouth House Fire

A neighbor called 911 and reported the fire.

FALMOUTH, MA —A man in his 70s was found dead after an early Friday morning Red Brook Road house fire, officials said.

The Falmouth Fire Department responded to the fire Red Brook Road south of Waquoit Highway shortly after 6:30 a.m. after a neighbor called 911, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said in a media release.

"On arrival, they found heavy fire showing from the rear of the building and heavy smoke from the font door," the release said.

"With the assistance of Falmouth Police, firefighters removed one person from the home and immediately attempted lifesaving efforts," according to the release.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, per the release, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner.

"Firefighters were able to knock down the bulk of the fire quickly, but the single-family home will be a total loss," the release said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
