Photos Show Extent Of Falmouth Main Street Fire

A firefighter was injured and two people were taken to a local hospital after the Main Street fire on New Year's Day.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth fire officials have shared photos and video from the New Year's Day Main Street fire that injured a firefighter and sent two apartment residents to the hospital.

The fire was reported at 176 Main Street around 5 p.m. Monday, when passersby spotted flames pouring from a second-floor apartment above the Twigs of Falmouth gift shop, according to officials.

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said. Another person inside the apartments during the fire refused treatment, and one firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

Businesses were also affected, with those below the second floor sustaining significant smoke and water damage, officials said.

Utilities were shut off to the building, as it was deemed uninhabitable. Town inspection services and the health department were expected on the scene Tuesday to evaluate the structural integrity of the building.
