Roof Collapses During East Falmouth House Fire

The roof and second floor of a Surrey Lane home partially collapsed during a fire. The home sustained "extensive damage," officials said.

FALMOUTH, MA — A home on Surrey Lane sustained "extensive damage" during an early morning fire on Oct. 28, Falmouth fire and rescue officials said.

A resident inside the home woke up to smoke detectors going office at 2:15 a.m. and tried without success to extinguish the fire, officials said.

The home sustained extensive damage, which included a partial collapse of the roof and the second floor of the home.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 5 a.m., officials said. The cause is believed to be accidental, but the fire is still under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department’s Fire Investigation Unit.

A patrolman on the scene was able to get the resident out of the home without injury, officials said.
