RV Pulled From Sinkhole After Striking Fire Hydrant In Falmouth

An RV fell into a sinkhole after crashing into a fire hydrant and damaging a water main in Falmouth.

FALMOUTH, MA — An RV fell into a sinkhole after crashing into a fire hydrant and damaging a water main, police said.

The crash happened on Turner Road around 9:30 p.m., Tuesday. Police said when the 45-foot camper struck the hydrant, leaking water from the damaged main created a sinkhole, which the RV slid into.

Water Department crews temporarily shut down the road while they repaired the water main. A heavy-duty tow truck was called to the scene to tow the camper out of the hole.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
