Scholarships Awarded by Woods Hole Woman's Club

Nine Precinct One Students Selected to Receive Scholarships

The Woods Hole Woman’s Club has awarded scholarships to nine Precinct One high school seniors this year. The eight graduating from Falmouth High School are: Max April, Luciano Borgese, Catelyn Charette, Juliana Dvorak, Grace Hostetter, Conrad Johnson, Becca Polzin, and Fiona Trumbull. Victoria Tynan will graduate from Sturgis Charter School. Club members extend hearty congratulations to these outstanding students. The club was happy to greet seven of them at the May 3 Scholarship Tea.

Max April played varsity golf and lacrosse and was much involved in studio arts. He has worked at Pier 37 and plans to attend Messiah University in Pennsylvania.

Luciano Borgese played basketball, and has served as a peer mentor as well as working at the Woods Hole Golf Course. He is headed to Providence College.

Catelyn Charette played lacrosse and soccer and is involved in the arts. She has worked at Quicks Hole restaurants and plans to attend University of Delaware to study molecular biology and genetics.

Juliana Dvorak played basketball and sailed and was also engaged in the arts. She has worked at restaurants in Woods Hole. Her plans are to attend the University of Washington in Seattle for the pre-science program.

Grace Hostetter played field hockey and lacrosse and serves as president of the French Honor Society. She has worked in local restaurants and will be attending Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

Conrad Johnson is active in climbing, skiing and swimming and has worked in landscaping and teaching swimming. He created and maintains a YouTube channel and now heads to UMass Amherst to major in Communications.

Becca Polzin is deeply involved in equestrian training including work on the farm and as a camp counselor. She plans to attend the University of Vermont to major in global studies.

Fiona Trumbull is a writer of poetry, fiction, and prose who has applied her skill to school publications and contest entries as well as editing and assisting others. She will be attending the University of Connecticut, majoring in English and Art.

Victoria Tynan is a violinist who is concertmistress of the All Cape and Islands Orchestra and the Cape Youth Symphony and has soloed in local churches. She plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for mechanical engineering.

The Scholarship Committee, headed by Priscilla Ruegg, is proud to add these students to the 129 others who have received scholarships from the Woods Hole Woman’s Club since 1980. Donations to the scholarship fund are welcome throughout the year. Checks should be written to the WHWC Charitable Trust and mailed to Kitty Brown, WHWC, PO Box 342, Woods Hole, MA 02543.

The Woods Hole Woman’s Club brings members together to provide enrichment and mutual helpfulness for the betterment of Woods Hole and the surrounding communities.
