Small Fire At Barnstable Corrections Facility Injures None
A smoldering pile of rags was discovered late Saturday night, but no damage was done to the kitchen at the facility.
BUZZARDS BAY, MA — No injuries were reported after a small fire on Saturday at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, officials said.
The fire was discovered by a correctional officer at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday when he entered the facility's kitchen and found smoke filling the area.
Officials said he identified a pile of rags smoldering on a metal cart by the office in the kitchen and used a fire extinguisher on the rags, while another officer called the fire department.

The Bourne Fire Department and Joint Base Cape Cod Fire Department responded within minutes, officials said.
After the firefighters ensured that the source of the fire was extinguished, and no other fire threat existed, the firefighters cleared the building. No damages were reported and the kitchen remains "open and operational," officials said.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is working with authorities to determine the cause of the fire.
