Soccer Tourney Raises Money for Local Family
This year, the tournament netted over $2,000 for residents in need.
The Falmouth Soccer Club held its Fourth Annual Joe Kirk Memorial Tournament on Saturday, March 24 at the . The tournament is named for the late Joseph Kirk, husband of past FSC President Becky Kirk, who has been involved in Falmouth youth soccer for many years.
Saturday's turnout attracted about 120 players from eight to 18 years old, as well as over 25 volunteers who were involved with putting on the event. Several high school soccer players also volunteered their time to coach the younger age groups. There were many spectators throughout the day and support from over thirty community businesses who sponsored the event or donated a raffle prize.
This annual event fosters demonstrable support for someone within the greater Falmouth soccer community who may be in need of some financial assistance due to a medical, financial or other hardship. This year, the tournament netted over $2,000 and the FSC Board of Directors voted to award $1,000 to the Chbarbi family (Magalie, Jaafar, Nathan, and Victoria). Nathan plays on a U9 FSC team, and Mrs. Chbarbi is bravely battling Stage 3 breast cancer.
