South Cape Artists Group on Display at Falmouth Art Center

The group that calls themselves the South Cape Artists have been painting together and sharing critiques since 2009.

Seven of the members—Marian Colman of Falmouth, Betsy Payne Cook of Mashpee, Bill Noble of Mashpee, Rebecca O’Donnell of Mashpee, Candice Ronesi of Forestdale, Susan J. Sigel of Mashpee and Arlene C. Weibel of Mashpee—will have their work on display for the month of April in the Landrau-Partan Gallery at Falmouth Art Center.

There will also be a piece on display as a tribute by South Cape Artist member Michael Petrizzo, who was a member of the group and passed away earlier this year.

The Opening Reception for the South Cape Artists exhibit is Friday, April 8, from 5 to 7pm at Falmouth Art Center. The reception is free and open to the public. The other two April shows will also have their openings that night: Under the Influence, a show of artist influences, in the Hermann Gallery; and the work of Aleezah Qayyum, a Pakistani artist with Cape Cod connections, in the Sigel Gallery.

While the South Cape Artists started as a group of friends meeting every Monday to paint coastal waters, over the years, it has grown to include award-winning professional artists whose work is on display in collections throughout the United States and Europe.

Over the more than 10 years that the group has been together, the artists have developed a camaraderie and an atmosphere of learning, sharing ideas and mentoring.

Members of the South Cape Artists work in various mediums. Marian Colman works in watercolor and also oils. She also teaches watercolor workshops at Falmouth Art Center. Betsy Payne Cook, another Falmouth Art Center instructor, specializes in pastels.

Bill Noble’s medium is oil paints and he also teaches at Falmouth Art Center. Rebecca O’Donnell also paints with oils. Susan Sigel paints in oils and pastels. Arlene Weibel paints in watercolor and acrylics. Candice Ronesi works in acrylics, as well as watercolor, pastel and oils.

What they have most in common is their joy in creating art from the beauty of Cape Cod.

The exhibit, South Cape Artists, runs April 1 to 25.
