State Removes Wind Turbine Falmouth To Follow Suit

The Massachusetts general laws provide for putting these wind turbines up, and for every law to put one up there is one to take them down. There are laws and regulations for everything.

The procurement process at the state-owned University of Massachusetts Dartmouth only took a few months for their troubled wind turbine removal. The Town of Falmouth has two abandoned wind turbines shut down by the courts between 2015 and 2017 and would like to remove their town-owned troubled wind turbines.

The state of Massachusetts through the Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance (DCAMM) put out a bid to demolish the wind turbine at the University of Massachusetts at the Dartmouth Campus.

The bid was issued between June 18, 2020, and July 2, 2020. The scope of work removes and dispose of existing wind turbine and related equipment at UMass Dartmouth. The contract number was: (Mass. State Project No. UMD2001 UMass Dartmouth–Wind Turbine Demolition)

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth turbine came down between September 21 and 22, 2020 after only 4 months from the issue of the bid.

The Dartmouth wind turbine bid was overseen by the Massachusetts Commissioner of the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) and DOER.

The Umass Dartmouth turbine project was just one component of a $35 million plan developed in conjunction with the state's Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) and the Department of Energy Resources' (DOER) to modernize the school power systems.

The Town of Falmouth appropriated 2.5 million through town meeting to remove their wind turbines in November of 2019. The Select Board finds they are no closer to a resolution now than we were when they started having this conversation after the courts shut down the turbines in 2015 and 2017.

The state of Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts took down its turbine with very little problems in a matter of months.

Falmouth has had years and millions of dollars appropriated by the town meeting to figure out a method to take down its turbines.
