Summer Juried Show Is An Eclectic Selection

Falmouth Art Center's Summer Juried Show is on display in the art center's Hermann Gallery through August 2.

This year the show as a whole represents authentic voices in the local art scene.

Artist Claudia Smith-Jacobs of East Falmouth, a Falmouth Art Center instructor, won Best in Show for her mixed media painting, “Mister.”

Second place went to Peggy Richard of Sandwich for her acrylic painting, “Morning.” Meg Ann Moorhead of Boston won third place for her silkscreen, “Lobster! Lobster!”

Eileen Casey of Sandwich won fourth place for her pastel, “Time for Reflection.”

The Juror’s Choice award went to Lisa Errico of Mashpee for her mixed media piece, “Ghosted Lovers.”

The following received honorable mentions: “Grounded,” an oil by Patricia Calkins-Martin of East Falmouth; “Early Morning Light,” a monoprint by Alice Nicholson Galick of East Falmouth; and “Sizzle,” a pastel by Jory Mason of Plymouth.

There were 211 pieces submitted to the show for consideration. Juror Paul Batch, an artist from Lincoln, selected 49 pieces for the show in a variety of mediums, from oil paintings to clay sculptures to stained glass.

The Falmouth Art Center, at 137 Gifford Street in Falmouth, is free and open to the public Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM; Saturday, from 10 AM to 2 PM; and Sunday, from 1 to 4 PM.
