U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Partners with the Woods Hole Library

Steve Wagner, Flotilla Staff Officer for Public Education for the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary's Woods Hole Flotilla recently met with Margaret McCormick, Head Librarian for the Woods Hole Library, to provide her with a donation on behalf of the Flotilla.

The Woods Hole Library has been very supportive of the Woods Hole Flotilla and their efforts to educate the recreational boating public on safe boating.

The library has been a gracious host allowing the Flotilla to conduct their one-day boating course that meets the National Boating Education Standards and is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). The course also meets the Massachusetts Environmental Police (MEP) requirements for their boating "license".

Massachusetts law requires all motorboat operators who are 12 through 15 years of age to complete a NASBLA approved boating course in order to operate a motorboat without adult supervision. Also, all Personal Watercraft (PWC) operators who are 16 or 17 years of age or older must complete a NASBLA approved boating course.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, uniformed, volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) established by and act of Congress on June 23, 1939, as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. On February 19, 1941, the organization was re-designated as the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
