Volunteer Opportunity

Men and women with a love of the water and boating and who want to learn more about boating, share knowledge, teach, or even serve alongside the active duty Coast Guard units are invited to join the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on Cape Cod and the islands.

Any U.S. citizen over the age of 17 can join the Auxiliary, where members teach boating safety, conduct vessel safety examinations, learn advanced seamanship and navigation techniques, provide assistance to boaters in local waters and work with active duty Coast Guard units afloat, in the air, and ashore.

Auxiliary members come from all walks of life and a wide variety of professional experiences.

The Auxiliary focuses on the importance of diversity in its membership to execute the organization’s various missions, and seeks a membership that spans age, ethnicity, gender, disability, religious beliefs, life stages, education and career levels.

There are six local Coast Guard Auxiliary units – called “Flotillas” – active on Cape Cod and the islands: Nauset (covering Provincetown and Orleans), Chatham, Woods Hole, Sandwich, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
