WATCH: Coast Guard Rescues Turtle Off Cape Cod Coast

A 300-to-400-pound leatherback sea turtle had its flipper tangled in a rope off the coast of Woods Hole.

WOODS HOLE, MA — Massachusetts Environmental Police and members of the U.S. Coast Guard teamed up to rescue a sea turtle that was caught in a rope.

On Saturday, a boater on Buzzards Bay near Woods Hole reported a 300-to-400-pound leatherback sea turtle was in distress. Environmental police said the turtle's flipper was significantly entangled in rope.

An officer tried to free the turtle, but due to its size, the U.S. Coast Guard was called to help and untangled the turtle's flipper. It appeared uninjured and quickly swam away.
