Works Inspired By Iran And Falmouth On View At Art Center

Minoo Minaei Khanbabai has been spending a lot of vacation time in Falmouth over the years, staying with her daughter’s family. Her brightly colored landscapes are inspired by Falmouth and New England, where she has lived for 48 years, as well as her homeland of Iran.

“From Shiraz to Falmouth: The Art of the Journey” opened in the Sigel Gallery at Falmouth Art Center on Tuesday and will be on display through June 30.

Ms. Khanbabai will be showing works from her Blue Tiles and Turquoise Skies series, with hard-edge Persian architecture paintings alongside more recent work of Falmouth landscapes.

Ms. Khanbabai lives with her husband in Western Massachusetts. She received her art education at the College of Fine Arts in Tehran, Iran. She has been painting for over 40 years. Her artwork has been exhibited in numerous shows, galleries and private and corporate collections.

Ms. Khanbabi’s paintings reflect her world views and much traveled experiences through the lens of her favorite subjects, seascapes, landscapes, garden scenes and Persian architecture.

“I strive to bring out the natural beauty and essence of nature in my work. I draw inspiration from the beautiful scenes of New England and my native country, Iran,” she said. “Monumental architectural forms surrounding me during my early life in Iran were the impetus for the series Blue Tiles and Turquoise Skies. With my hard-edge painting technique, I attempt to simplify and reduce the intricate arch and tile motifs to their truest essence.”

The Falmouth Art Center at 137 Gifford Street in Falmouth is free and open to the public daily, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM; Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM and Sunday 1 to 4 PM.
