Boston, MA…September 28, 2015 … Dorchester actress Marta Rymer will star in Fiddlehead Theatre Company’s production of the classic musical West Side Story from October 16-25, 2015 at the historic Strand Theatre (543 Columbia Rd, Dorchester, MA 02125). Rymer will play the character “Estella” alongsidethe finest talents direct from the Broadway revival and national and international tours of West Side Story. The production will kick off Fiddlehead’s 21st season, followed by The Little Mermaid (Nov 17-Dec 6); RENT (Feb 5-21, 2016), and Show Boat (April 22-May 1, 2016). West Side Story will be costumed and Directed by Stacey Stephens, original choreography recreated by Wendy Hall, and Music Director Charles Peltz will direct a 22-piece orchestra bringing Bernstein’s music to life. Marta is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City and has been featured in a number of independent films shot in the New England area. Marta’s recent theater credits include: Curly’s Wife inOf Mice and Men, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird, Tituba in The Crucible, and Nancy MacDowell in Ever True. An accomplished actress, singer, dancer, and violinist, she has worked in the performing arts her whole life, immersing herself in plays, musicals, operas, ballets, bands, orchestras, films, and festivals around the country. About West Side Story
Leonard Bernstein’s soaring music brings to life the retelling of Shakespeare’s most romantic love story, Romeo and Juliet. Set against the gang violence of New York City in the late 1950’s, West Side Story tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers whose families’ heritage and prejudice brings their love to a tragic end. Featuring Arthur Laurent’s book and Stephen Sondheim lyrics in such classic songs as “Tonight,” “Maria” and “Somewhere,” this is a show for all ages.
West Side Story will run for 6 performances only: Friday, October 16, 8:00 pm; Saturday, October 17, 8:00 pm; Sunday, October 18, 2:00 pm; Friday, October 23, 8:00 pm; Saturday, October 24, 8:00 pm; Sunday, October 25, 2:00 pm.
Fiddlehead’s largest season ever will continue with Disney’s The Little Mermaid from November 17-Dec 6; 2015; the hit Broadway sensation RENT from February 5-21, 2016, and the timeless classic Show Boat April 22-May 1, 2016. West Side Story is based on a conception of Jerome Robbins. Book by Arthur Laurents, Music by Leonard Bernstein, and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. New transportation option for 2015-2016 season!
Fiddlehead Theatre is offering free transportation to and from Copley Plaza to The Strand Theatre for ticket holders on Old Town Trolley! Patrons can reserve a spot on the trolley by calling the box office at 617-514-6497; limited seating – reservations are required. Trolleys will pick up and drop off from 138 St. James Avenue at Copley Plaza: For Friday and Saturday performances pick-up at 7:15 pm and 7:30 pm, and Sundayperformances at 1:15 pm and 1:30 pm. Old Town Trolley ambassadors will have a list of names upon departure.
