2017 Foxborough Town Election: Voters Say No to Recreational Marijuana

The voters have said yes to an incumbent school committee member and no to recreational marijuana stores across town.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The voters have said yes to an incumbent school committee member and no to recreational marijuana stores across town.

Those were the two main votes in an otherwise quiet Foxborough Town Election. In the school committee race, long-time committee member Beverly Lord beat Nancy Morrison 629-416.

On the ballot question for recreational marijuana, residents voted 681-415 in favor of the by-law which outlaws all recreational marijuana operations in town. That means no marijuana dispensaries, businesses, plants, or factories may open in town. The ballot question does not affect medical marijuana or prevent residents from smoking in their homes. A second vote at the Annual Town Meeting is needed to solidify a ban on recreational marijuana sales.
