75 Apply to be New Foxborough Chief of Police

Current police chief Ed O'Leary is retiring on Sept. 30.

Foxborough, MA — The town's chief of police opening has drawn interest near and far.

According to Police Chief Ed O’Leary, there were 75 applications for the job, with 21 coming from outside of the state. O’Leary is set to retire on Sept. 30.

Of the 75 applicants, 14 were picked for phone interviews. Seven were then interviewed in person by town department managers and local businessmen, according to O’Leary.

The process will pick up again in early August with a two-day assessment center, with three finalists to interview with the selectmen on Aug. 23. In April, Assistant Town Manager Mary Beth Bernard said assessment center exercises could be a simulated town meeting, media conference, or rapid fire questions.

After that, the town manager will present his final choice to the board. Once a decision is made, the new chief will be hired between Sept. 15-30.
