Attleboro Man Charged With Striking Plainville Officer at Target Ordered to Stay Out of Town

Police say Robert M. Camara Jr. struck an office as he drove away from Target in Plainville.

PLAINVILLE, MA — A man who struck a police officer while fleeing a shoplifting incident at the Plainville Target will face charges from police.

The man, identified as 35-year-old Robert M. Camara Jr. of Attleboro according to WBZ, has been arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury, larceny over $250, using a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony and operating with a suspended license. He was ordered held on $15,000 bail during is arraignment Monday in Wrentham District Court.

At about 10 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a report of shoplifting at Target right off of Route 1. As Officer Todd Holbrook approached Camara while he was entering his vehicle, Camara allegedly drove away, striking Holbrook as he fled.

Holbrook was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released later in the day.

Camara is due back in court next month. If he posts bail, he must stay away from Plainville and all Target stores.
