August Unemployment Drops in Foxborough

Foxborough sees decline in unemployment rate.

The town of Foxborough saw its unemployment rate fall from July to August, according to data released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

According to the department's numbers, the rate declined from 6.5 percent in July to 5.9 percent in August. Both numbers were below last year's 7.2 percent rate.

The unemployment rates for area towns follow:

  • Dover's unemployment rate fell from 4.5 percent in July to 3.8 percent last month. Last year's rate was 5.3 percent
  • Easton saw its rate drop from 6.6 percent to 5.5 percent last month. Last August's rate was 7.2 percent.
  • Mansfield saw a slight decline in its rate, from 6.8 percent to 6.2 percent. Last year's rate was 7.3 percent.
  • Medfield's unemployment rate dropped from 5.8 percent in July to 5.1 percent in August. The rate for last August was 6.9 percent.
  • Norfolk saw its rate fall from 7.4 percent to 6.3 percent in August. Last year's rate was 8 percent.
  • Norton's unemployment rate dropped from 7.8 percent to 7.1 percent, below last year's rate of 8.8 percent.
  • Norwood had its August rate fall from 6.9 to 6.2. Last year's rate was 7.1 percent.
  • Plainville saw its rate increase slightly in August, from 8.2 percent in July to 8.4 percent. Last year's rate was 9.8 percent.
  • Sharon's unemployment rate fell from 5.8 percent in July to 5.4 percent last month. Last year's rate was 6 percent.
  • Stoughton had its rate fall in August from 7.1 percent to 6.7 percent, down from last August's 8 percent rate.
