FOXBOROUGH, MA—The summer concert season at Gillette Stadium began with a hip-hop freight train tearing through the stadium Friday night.

Hip-hop and R & B mogul Beyonce' took the "Formation World Tour" to Gillette Stadium Friday Night in front of a sold out crowd of over 50,000, and had each of them eating out of the palm of her hand for over two straight hours. The tour was her first as a solo artist since 2013's Mrs. Carter Show World Tour and her first stop at Gillette Stadium since the On the Run tour with Jay Z in 2014.

The 'Slay Queen' train entered and left the station, and all that was left were tons confetti and a faint odor of fireworks.

The show was kicked off by Hip-Hop's resident hype-man DJ Khaled, who warmed the crowd up by spinning some of rap's most popular tracks, past and present. Khaled stuck to playing just short portions of songs, hyping the crowd with his trademark "we the best!" catchphrase.

However, Khaled's efforts paled in comparison to the roar heard once Beyonce's "Formation" roared through the Gillette speakers. "Queen Bey" continued to bring the energy throughout the performance, slowing down only for moments of intense emotions.

"Formation" was followed(indirectly) by "Run the World", "Baby Boy," and a mix of party-enducing mega hits and album tracks. Beyonce later put on emotional performances of Me Myself and I, as well as "Runnin" and "All Night," a hit off her newest album "Lemonade."

Eventually, Beyonce closed the show with some of her biggest hits, such as "Crazy in Love," and closing with an inspiring performance of "Halo."

All of these performances done while belting out nearly flawless vocals and performing elaborate dance routines with a group of 6-8 background dancers.

Beyonce's performance represented a progression of where her sound has ventured into. A distinct difference can be heard between the pop-oriented "Survivor" and the trap-inspired hits on her newest record.

Her performance incorporated some of today's biggest rap hits in a sort of mash-up with some of her most popular tracks.

Beyonce's performance of "Halo" was a closing to an emotional night of music. Performed on a stage filled with ankle-deep water, her performance left a few fans in tears.

Beyonce was later lowered into the depths of the Gillette stage, leaving fans to process seeing a pop icon still in her prime after 20 years of sold-out stadiums.
