Is Bill Belichick's Seat Hotter Now That Mike Vrabel Is Fired?

The former Tennessee Titans coach and Patriots linebacker is said to be interested in the Patriots job. Plus: Could Josh McDaniels return?

Vrabel's firing doesn't signal the end for Belichick, but it could prove to be a good starting point for those interested in pinpointing a top candidate for the Patriots.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Day two of Bill Belichick watch is underway with little additional information coming out of Foxborough.

According to reports, Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft met on Monday and are expected to meet at least once more this week.

Discussions will likely include the franchise's future and, of course, Belichick's role within them.

During his end-of-season press conference on Monday, Belichick said he would be open to the idea of a leaner role when it came to personnel decisions.

It's also being reported that the team could solve a problem at offensive coordinator by bringing back former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. McDaniels, who was so disliked in the Raiders locker room that the team's players were celebrating by smoking cigars after his firing, has left New England and returned before.

For all his warts as a head coach, his track record as an offensive playcaller is stellar, albeit those wins largely include a Tom Brady-led team.

The decision-making for Kraft possibly got a little more interesting on Tuesday, however, as the Tennessee Titans fired head coach — and former Patriot — Mike Vrabel.

In six seasons with the Titans, Vrabel made the playoffs four times. More, it was also reported that, should Belichick be out in New England, Vrabel would be interested in a homecoming to Foxborough.

However, reporters from around the Titans said with the roster declining and some tension among the front office and head coach, the team decided now was the time to move on.

Vrabel's firing doesn't signal the end for Belichick, but it could prove to be a good starting point for those interested in pinpointing a top candidate for the Patriots.
