Braintree Motel 6 Temporarily Closing
The motel where a Braintree police officer was shot will close at the end of the month.

BRAINTREE, MA — In the wake of an officer shooting and new scrutiny around public safety issues at the property, the Motel 6 on Union Street will temporarily shut down.
The hotel said at Thursday's board of health meeting that they will cease operation on June 1 to discuss improvements that can be made to the operation. The motel is planning to reopen July 13, according to a Facebook post from District 5 Councilor Michael Owens, whose district includes the motel.
Due to the agreement to close, the board accepted a request for a continuance of the hearing.

The establishment has received a large amount of attention after a person staying at the motel shot a police officer. At about 9:30 p.m. on May 5, five officers went to the motel to serve a restraining order. After the suspect, identified as Tizaya Jordan Robinson, refused to open the door to his room, officers used a key to enter and were greeted with gunfire from Robinson. Due to the gunshots, Officer Donald Delaney was struck in the head by shrapnel and was transported to Boston Medical Center. He was released two days later but faces future surgery
Robinson was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot.
