The crash happened early Sunday morning on Route 495 in Foxborough—the home of the Patriots’ stadium. Spikes was driving a 2011 Maybach, which can cost upward of $500,000.

Police said he rear-ended the family’s 2009 Nissan Murano, sped away, then ditched his car on the highway. Before he got out of the car, however, he was contacted by the car’s onboard assistance service, which had detected a crash and called the vehicle, police said. During that call, the driver reported that he had struck a deer, police said.

State troopers later found the Maybach with significant front-end damage.
