Compromise Close in Foxborough High Yearbook Photo Controversy

Lisa Truax says that a new photo will be taken for an advertisement featuring her daughter in the yearbook.

A compromise in the Foxborough High School yearbook flag controversy is in the work, with both sides close to an agreement.

Lisa Truax, the mother of Morgan Truax, told Foxborough Patch that a local photographer has offered to reshoot a photo of her daughter for an advertisement in the school’s yearbook. Earlier this week, a paid advertisement from the Red Wing congratulating Morgan on graduating high school was rejected because the ad contained a photograph of Morgan standing on an American flag backdrop.

The photograph quickly went viral Thursday, with Lisa’s initial post racking up over 8,300 shares, being posted locally in the Foxborough Discussion forum on Facebook, and shared around the world.

Initially, the high school said they would be willing to run a cropped version of the photo, but chose not to after a local veterans group said running a photo of someone standing on the flag, cropped or as is, would be disrespectful.

Truax said Friday night that she did not expect her post to go viral, but the support she has received has been overwhelming.

“It was a very select few that found (the photo) to be offensive,” she said.

The background for the new photo will feature the American flag, but it will not be in a similar manner as the original photo, according to Truax.
