Connecticut Man Charged with Having Weapons in Gillette Stadium Parking Lot Laughs at Police Report

Matthew Bromson was arraigned Monday morning in Wrentham District Court.

A Connecticut man charged with having weapons in a parking lot for Gillette Stadium employees was ordered held on bail Monday morning.

Matthew Bromson, 48, of North Granby, Conn., was arraigned on multiple weapons charges stemming from the New Year’s Day arrest and additional charges from a search of his car, a case out of Walpole, and on an outstanding warrant in Connecticut.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on a combined $17,500 by a judge at Wrentham District Court. He was also ordered to stay away from the stadium.

Bromson ended up in the parking lot in an attempt to buy a ticket for the Winter Classic from a scalper, but found the prices to be too expensive, according to Assistant District Attorney Peter Kelly. Police at the stadium became aware of Bromson after bus drivers in the parking lot noticed him walking around the lot, placing small paint brushes, tools and cans of WD-40 on care windshields. When a driver asked why he was placing the items on cars, Bromson replied, ”I did it because I’m just like Santa.”

When he returned to his car, he was asked again by a driver what he was doing, telling the driver that he was “loading his gun.”

Three witnesses told police they observe Bromson handle a large cylinder-shaped object they believed may have been a gun. When police talked to Bromson, they reportedly noticed his speech was slurred and smelled alcohol on his breath.

A search of his car produced an electric stun gun and several sharp-edged weapons. During an additional search at the Foxborough Police Department, police found more weapons including darts, pills, and a double-edged knife.

The incident wasn’t Bromson’s only during the week. On New Year’s Eve, Bromson was asked to leave America’s Best Value Inn on Route 1. Officers helped Bromson locate to another local hotel, noticing that it appeared that he was living out of his vehicle.

During the hearing, Bromson could be seen smiling and laughing as Kelly read the police report.

Bromson is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Jan. 27. He will also face a hearing for the outstanding warrant.
