New Town Hall Construction Underway

The town held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday evening.

FOXBOROUGH, MA - After over a decade of frustration and work, Foxborough is getting a new Town Hall.

The town held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the start of construction. Speakers at the short ceremony included Town Manager Bill Keegan, State Rep. Jay Barrows, Selectmen Chairman Jim DeVellis, and Permanent Municipal Building Committee Chairman Bill Yukna.

“This truly was a town working together to make sure they have a town hall they can be proud of and can be as useful for as many years as the old building has,” Barrows said.

Residents approved the funding for the plans back in November 2014 at town meeting, with the rest of the funding pass at another town meeting in March.

In his remarks, DeVellis thanked Keegan, the Permanent Building Committee, the voters at town meeting, and well-known opponent to a new building Dick Heydecker.

“His ad hoc committee brought attention to the Town Hall. This is more refined and sharper than it was,” DeVellis said. “Because of that, we got a better building and moving forward the buildings we have are going to be managed differently.”

Construction on the building, which is located behind the current Town Hall, is expected to take 14-16 months.
