Conversations at the Meetinghouse is proud to host The Phoenix Quartet in Concert on Friday, May 1st at 7:00 pm. The members of the quartet are participants of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Intensive Community Program (BYSO/ICP), a rigorous string instrument training program within the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra that brings quality classical music instruction to underrepresented communities. They are also affiliated with Project STEP in Boston, a nonprofit organization that “envisions a world in which the classical music profession reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of our communities. In addition, one of the members, Taylor Payne is the 2014 winner of the William S. Walsman Scholarship, sponsored by William Walsman, violin maker, and the violin she plays with was made by Mr. Walsman. Mr. Walsman, a landscape contractor by trade, has been making violins in the off-seasons for six years and currently has two local musicians using his instruments.
Following a 45min concert by The Phoenix Quartet, the group will answer questions joined by Mr. Walsman who will answer questions about his violin making. Donations will be graciously accepted for the musicians.
