In the near future, Cumberland Farms on Mechanic Street may have a new look.
In an informal discussion with the planning board, representatives from the convenience store chain shared plans to completely redo the property and build a food-centric 4,500 sq. ft. building with six gas pumps.
Currently, there are four pumps and a 2,500 sq. ft. store build in 1976. Cars at the pumps will be perpendicular to the store and street rather than parallel as they are now.

According to Matt Leidner, the civil engineer for the project, the entire property will be wiped cleaned and the underground takes will be removed and replaced with two new state of the art 20,000 gallon tanks.
Currently the plan has room for 26 parking spaces as required by town zoning bylaws but Cumberland Farms will look to take advantage of a provision that allows street parking within 500 feet of property to be counted as parking for the property.

While talks have begun, approval from the Design Review Board, and variances and/or findings from the Zoning Board of Appeals will be needed before construction can begin. Currently there is no start time for work to start but construction is expected to take 4-6 months.
