Darrelle Revis Leaves New England, Signs With Jets

The cornerback will sign with the New York Jets according to his agent.


The Patriots’ biggest acquisition of 2014 is perhaps the New York Jets’ biggest acquisition of 2015.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis has agreed to a return to the Jets, according to his agent. He previously spent six seasons with the the that drafted him in 2007 before playing a season in Tampa Bay in 2013.

Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth $70 million with $39 million fully guaranteed over five years.

Originally believed to be signed to a two-year contract with the Patriots, team president Jonathan Kraft later admitted that the 2015 season was a “placeholder,” referring to a $25 million salary cap charge the team was unlikely to absorb.

Coming to the Patriots in 2014, Revis established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL only two years after injuring his ACL. A shutdown corner, quarterbacks averaged a rating of only 67.9 when throwing towards Revis.
