Effort to Vacate Aaron Hernandez Murder Conviction Begins

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III ​ said in a statement that his office would oppose the request.

As expected, the legal team for the late Aaron Hernandez will attempt to vacate the former New England Patriots tight end's murder conviction.

Hernandez's lawyers have filed paperwork in Bristol Superior Court to erase the conviction that led to Hernandez serving a life in prison for the murder of Odin Lloyd.

State laws allows a conviction to be vacated if a person dies before the legal appeals process is completed.

Hernandez was arrested in 2013 for Lloyd's murder and was convicted in 2015. On April 14, he was found not guilty of a 2012 double murder.

Hernandez hanged himself last Wednesday, killing himself five days after the double murder trial verdict was announced.
