Everett Man Charged with Driving Motorcycle Into Trooper After Pats Game Held in Jail
Jose Perez-Rodriguez was ordered held on $10,000 bail but bail was revoked in another case.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — An Everett man charged with striking a state trooper after Sunday's Patriots game was ordered to spend up to 90 days in jail for violating the terms of his release in another case.
Jose Perez-Rodriguez, 25, was ordered held on $10,000 bail during his arraignment in Wrentham District Court for the most recent charges and was ordered held after his bail from another case in Malden District Court was revoked. He is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, motor vehicle racing, a state highway traffic violation, improper operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery on a police officer, and assault and battery while causing bodily injury.
According to a police report, troopers at Sunday afternoon's New England Patriots game at Gillette Stadium noticed two motorcycles leaving lot 23 after the game. The first operator, identified as Perez-Rodriguez, allegedly revved his engine as he passed police while the second operator, a female, was driving in a safe manner. Troopers in the lot wrote that they could hear the revving as the motorcycle sat in traffic on Route 1 North near the P5 crosswalk. After hearing Perez-Rodriguez rev his engine about 10 more times, the troopers decided to speak to the operator.

As the officers walked towards the crosswalk, they learned that other troopers had similar concerns. Perez-Rodriguez was asked to pull into the breakdown lane, which he did before allegedly making a turn and driving away, going south down the northbound side of the highway.
The female operator told police that she met Perez-Rodriguez about a week earlier and they were previously at Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grill at Patriot Place. She said Perez-Rodriguez was trying to do burnouts and told him to stop revving his engine, according to the report.

Shortly later, police received a report that a state police captain was struck while attempting to motion Perez-Rodriguez to stop near the P8 entrance. The captain was taken to Boston Medical Center where he remains as of Monday morning with a broken nose facial/head lacerations and contusions.
Perez-Rodriguez was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. During the ride, he allegedly stated that he was unaware that he was involved in a crash, denied drinking alcohol, and said he was a good kid. Police say he was uncooperative at times.
A defense attorney for Perez-Rodriguez said there was no intention to strike the state trooper. He requested an ankle bracelet rather than jail time for the revoked bail.
"I'm just not aware of a crime for revving one's engine," he said.
Attorneys for the Commonwealth originally requested $15,000 cash bail.
In the case out of Malden District Court, a MBTA police report describes a similar event. On June 14, an officer observed Perez-Rodriguez allegedly weaving through traffic in Medford. Following a crash, he fled on foot. He was taken into custody at a nearby shopping center, wearing different clothes, police said. A motorcycle helmet was found in a nearby bush.
Perez-Rodriguez is due back in court on Oct. 31.
