Feldman Gets Another Year as Selectmen Chairman

Plus, the board approved a change in the way Police Chief William Baker is compensated for work at Gillette Stadium events.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Following a quiet election, the Foxborough selectmen decided to keep in line with the trend by providing no changes to their board.

The selectmen voted to stand pat during Tuesday's board reorganization. Selectman David Feldman will remain the chair, Selectman Chris Mitchell will stay as the vice chair, and Selectman Mark Elfman will be the clerk for another year.

"I think we've done a great job. I know normally in the rotation it would be the vice chair but I would like to have you stay on as chair," Mitchell said to Feldman.

Town Manager Bill Keegan noted that boards do not often maintain their leadership roles for more than a year.

In other board news, the selectmen approved a change to Chief William Baker's contract which changes his compensation for his work for event security at Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place. Baker will now receive a monthly stipend of $1,800, rather than a hourly wage.

The change would actually save the town money, according to the board.

"It's far and few between when a high salary employee comes to the board with a change that makes sense and saves the town money," Selectman Jim DeVellis said.

Baker is expected to coordinate the security operation of all NFL games and major concerts at Gillette Stadium, and no less than four soccer games unless excused by the town manager.
