A former prison guard admitted he smuggled Suboxone and synthetic marijuana into MCI-Norfolk to try to sell to inmates.
NORFOLK, MA — A former prison guard admitted he smuggled Suboxone and synthetic marijuana into jail with the intention of selling them to an inmate at MCI-Norfolk. Steven Frazer, 29, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute in U.S. District Court in Boston Wednesday.
In November 2018, federal agents arrested Frazer after he met a police informant at the Bristol Place shopping plaza in South Attleboro and bought 40 Suboxone strips and 23 pages of K2, a synthetic marijuana, for $2,500, prosecutors said. Subxone, a drug used to treat heroin addiction is coveted in prisons across the country, particularly in New England, federal prosecutors said. The drug is often abused to get high.
Frazer could face up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing was scheduled for Sept. 16.
