Four Remain in Foxborough Police Chief Search

The last four candidates will take part in an assessment center.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — After 75 applicants, four remain in the search for Foxborough's new police chief.

Assistant Town Manager Mary Beth Bernard told the selectmen this week that the process remains on schedule. Seven candidates recently took part in interviews with a group of town officials and a second group of members of the community. At the end of the interview, the two group came to a consensus on who the last four candidates should be.

The four move on to a two-day assessment center. Following the next step, an undetermined number of finalists will be announced for interviews with the selectmen. The finalist interviews are scheduled for Aug. 23.

Prior to the last interview, the town will announce the finalists. So far, the names of any of the candidates have not been made public.

"(People) keep trying to fish for information and more often than not they're throwing out the names of people that weren't part of the process," Town Manager Bill Keegan said.

"It's a good process because I have no clue. I haven't heard a peep or anything," Selectman Chris Mitchell said.

The new chief is expected to start during the second half of September. Chief Ed O'Leary's last day is Sept. 30.
