Foxboro Firefighters Best Police In Charity Wing-Eating Contest

The Foxborough Fire Department won Stop & Shop's singe-eating contest and raised $1,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Wings, charity and some friendly competition between the police and fire departments — all of this was on display at the Foxborough Stop & Shop. To celebrate the opening of the grocery store's new chicken wing bar, police officers and firefighters competed to see who could eat the most. Former New England Patriot Joe Andruzzi judged the event, and when it was all said and done, declared the fire department the winners.

In just five minutes, Foxborough firefighters Joseph Rabuffo, Colin Sweeney, Joe Danton, Parker Merritt and PJ Belham devoured 17 pounds of wings. The police department said on its Facebook page it gave a valiant effort. The police team, which included Detectives Patrick Morrison and Patrick Hoffman, School Resource officer Frank Azeveo, Sgt, Ken Fitzgerald and Officer Shawn Buckley, ate around 15 pounds of wings, according to Chief Michael Grace's estimates.

"To our gluttonous colleagues on the red team, job well done," police said in their concession post on Facebook.

But most importantly the event raised money for charity. Stop & Shop donated $1,000 to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute on behalf of the Foxborough Fire Department. The store also donated $250 to the Joseph Andruzzi Foundation, which gives financial support to cancer victims and their family, on behalf of the police department.

"It (the competition) was absolutely friendly," Grace said. "It was all for a good cause."
