FOXBOROUGH, MA — It's common for kids to have lemonade stands to make a little money for themselves, but one Burrell Elementary School student wanted to help others with the money he made.

Foxborough's Macklin Boyd sold lemonade and cookies, made $200 in one day and donated it to the town's police and fire departments. Each department received an envelope with $100 as a donation from Boyd.

"They help us a lot and work hard to keep us safe," Boyd said.

The Board of Selectmen invited Boyd to its meeting Tuesday to thank him. Police Chief Michael Grace and Fire Chief Michael Kelleher also stopped by to tell the selectmen a little about Boyd's selfless deed.

"Last week, Macklin showed up to the police department, and one of the sergeants goes 'Chief, there's a little boy out there. He's got lots of money he wants to give to the police department,'" Grace told the board.

"He turned lemons to lemonade," Grace added. "If you got kids with now everything going on, it's hard. School is a challenge, activities are a challenge, so he had the initiative to make a lemonade stand. We were impressed."

As of a thank you for the donation, Grace and Kelleher offered to let Boyd ride in any police or fire vehicle in the next Foxborough Founder's Day parade.

Boyd was visibility excited and chose the fire truck because he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.
