Why are you seeking elective office?
For the years that I have lived in Foxboro and raised my family I have always found time to be involved in civic activities and Town Government. Three years ago I was appointed to the Advisory Committee and found myself deep in the process of understanding our budget and the effect on the quality of life in our town. This has put me in the best position to help move Foxboro forward in a fiscally responsible way. Take my knowledge and experience to the next level.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The single most pressing issue is how to be fiscally responsible. Trying to keep taxes in check while not sacrificing services so that all ages can afford to continue to live here. There needs to be a balance of spending and taxes. I will support smart economic growth while maintaining our Towns character and identity.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Serving the last three years on the Advisory Committee has given me insight into all facets of town government with a focus on the budget. I am in a position to take that knowledge and experience, as well as from my numerous volunteer groups and activities over many years to help keep Foxboro a vibrant community all generations are proud to call home. My husband Jimmy grew up in Foxboro and we choose to live and raise our family here. Our two children attended Foxboro Public Schools. As a longtime resident, parent, and volunteer I am certain I am a strong candidate for Selectman.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
I am running for an open seat.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform
Development of the Route 1 area is crucial. Given recent developments in the world it will be necessary to work with the stakeholders to access where the projects stand and how to help move them forward. Revitalization of Uptown continues to be important. Preserving the character of the Uptown area and bringing business there is critical.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I can not stress enough that my experience on Advisory Committee has been invaluable. I have met with the various Department Heads and employees in Town Government who will make proposals to the Board of Selectman, and worked in a team environment to gain a full understanding of the town budget. Knowledge of the budget is key, it gives me a head start. Establishing the Friends of Recreation Committee (501C) and serving on it for years has exposed me to the needs of families in town, and having a special needs child has provided me with an understanding of what many families are facing. I've worked in the food service industry for over 30 years, at the same establishment for 22. Working directly with people on a daily basis. It has taught me how to multitask and given me good communication skills. I have learned to balance work, family, and volunteering. All of these experiences will guide me to be a great Selectman.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
Always listen to what people have to say, respect others opinions, and keep an open mind.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I've volunteered my whole life and instill it and community in our family.
That I care deeply about our town and will work hard day in and day out for the citizens. I will always give 100%.
Want to ensure the people who worked hard to live and raise their families here can afford to stay in our incredible community.
