Foxborough Kids Read: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Town-Wide Reading Program For Kids Set to Begin
The Partners in Patriotism Fund, Friends of the Boyden Library and the Boyden Library are pleased to present a town-wide reading program just for kids. Based on the children’s classic “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis, we invite Foxborough kids and families to take part in these free and fun events that will take place between April 13-May 1, 2015. Many of the events allow a limited number of participants, so please call the Children’s Desk at 508-543-1246 on the dates noted to reserve your spot.

Book Discussion & Tea with Mrs. Rossetti (instead of Mr. Tumnus) Monday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. or Wednesday, April 15 at 4:00 p.m. Grades 3 & 4. We’ll recreate Lucy’s tea with Mr. Tumnus. We will have tea, lemonade, cakes, toast & honey, and chocolate eggs with our book discussion. Register for one date beginning April 1. The program will take place in the Story & Craft Room. Please supply safe snacks for those with food allergies. A limited supply of books is available for book discussion participants.
Book Discussion with Mr. Rossetti Tuesday, April 14 at 4:00 p.m. or Friday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m. Grades 5-8. A “Classic” Book Discussion with Mr. Rossetti (Ahern Middle School Librarian) Roll up your sleeves and get down to business talking about the ins-and-outs of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Let us know if you have food allergies. There might be snacks! Register for one date beginning April 2. The program will take place in the Story & Craft Room. A limited supply of books is available for book discussion participants.

Family Book Discussion with Chris Cormier Hayes Saturday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. or Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. Recommended for grades 3 and older. It’s fun when you get to say something totally different about a book than what your parents might say. This often happens in Family Book Discussions. Bring a family member and take part in a lively discussion with our friend and professional book group leader Chris Cormier Hayes. Register for one date beginning April 10. The programs will take place in the Community Meeting Room. A limited supply of books is available for book discussion participants. Please limit 2 books per family.
Turkish Delight Demo with Andrea Kristenson Saturday, April 18 at 2:00, 2:45, 3:30. Register for one session at the Library Children’s Desk beginning April 3. Ages 7 & older. Program location: Foxboro Recreation Dept. CRRA Hall at 68 Mill St. Foxboro. With help from the audience, Mrs. Kristenson will demonstrate how to make the candy that put Edmund under the spell of the White Witch. She will discuss how the recipe originated and how it relates to the book. Samples of Turkish Delight and drinks will be provided.
Archery at Ace Archers Wednesday, April 22 or Thursday, April 30. Both program 4:00-6:00 p.m. Program Location: Ace Archers 131 Morse St. Foxboro. Ages 8 and older. Register for one session at the Library Children’s Desk beginning April 8. Susan received a magical bow and arrow to be used in time of great need. Receive an introduction to archery, then try your hand.
Please note: Parents/caregivers must escort child inside for check-in. Children will only be released at the conclusion of the program to their parent/caregiver. Adults are welcome to stay, otherwise prompt pick-up is required.
Let’s Make Masks! Thursday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. or Tuesday, April 28 at 5:00 p.m. Ages 7 & older. Make a Lion Mask or a Mask of the White Witch. Pam Boutin-Coviello will be here to help you create. All materials will be provided. Register for one date beginning Monday, April 13. The program will take place in the Story & Craft Room
Let’s Make Swords & Shields! Thursday, April 23 at 3:00 p.m. or Tuesday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. Ages 7 & older. Peter received his sword and shield to defend himself in the story. Pam Boutin-Coviello will help you personalize your own. All materials will be provided. Register for one date beginning Monday, April 13. The program will take place in the Story & Craft Room.
Magic and Wizardry with Ed the Wizard Friday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m.—Ages 4 & older Magic Show based on “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” for kids and families. The program will take place in the Community Meeting Room. Registration is not required.
The Secrets Behind Magic with Ed the Wizard Friday, April 24- 1:00 p.m. Grades 5 & older are welcome to join this magic workshop. You’ll learn some impromptu magic routines that would be done at a feast-such as the feasts and gatherings around food in the book! Register beginning Tuesday, April 14. The program will take place in the Community Meeting Room.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Directed by Andrew Adamson. Friday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m. A free showing of the 2005 film at Foxboro’s Orpheum Theatre. Program location: 1 School St. Foxboro. Rated PG
