Foxborough Resident Had 1,000+ Grams Of Fentanyl: Police

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Police allegedly seized more than 1,000 grams fentanyl at a Foxborough residence and arrested the man who lived there after he assaulted police, according to law enforcement officials.

Stephan Pena, 23, was arrested Friday and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, witness intimidation, and trafficking fentanyl, according to police. He was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Friday and ordered held on $100,000 bail. Pena must surrender his passport as well.

Police arrived at the Lodge at Foxborough Apartments on Foxborough Boulevard around 2:20 a.m. Friday for a report of a disturbance. Pena told police that his cousin and his girlfriend were fighting and attempted to close the door to his apartment on the officers, according to a police report. When Officer James Cannata attempted to block the door and enter to check on the two who were arguing, Pena allegedly yelled "They are coming in" in Spanish. When police tried to arrest him, he allegedly assaulted them and tried to flee up the stairs.

Once Pena was placed in police custody, officers checked the second floor and found several 55-gallon drums, a baby highchair, diapers, a large pan on a stove top, and several bottles of bleach. Officers also discovered an open door to the patio and it appeared that whoever was on the second floor had fled. The other people inside the house were not located.

A search warrant was executed at 8:20 a.m. with a special DEA team and recovered more than 1,000 grams of fentanyl.

In court, Assistant Norfolk District Attorney Debi Curley said it is likely that Pena will face a federal indictment, which comes with a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Pena's court-appointed attorney John Gaffney said that Pena had only lived in Foxborough for two months and previously lived in Connecticut for five years.

After the arraignment, a woman identifying herself at Pena's sister declined speak with reporters.

Pena is due back in court for a probable cause hearing Nov. 30.
