FOXBOROUGH, MA — A new regional emergency dispatch district, which includes Foxborough, Mansfield, Easton, and Norton, is expected to launch this summer. Foxborough and Mansfield will be the first two of the four towns to use the new dispatch system, starting on July 1, Mansfield Wicked Local reported.

Foxborough and Mansfield will temporarily use the Foxborough Public Safety Building to start the program, since Mansfield's new public safety building does not include a dispatch center. It was built with regionalization in mind. The towns plan to eventually build a permanent dispatch center for the region called the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communication Center.

The center will be built at the High Rock in Foxborough and is estimated to cost about $6 million, as well as $2 million for computer equipment. SEMRECC executive director Robert Verdone told Mansfield Wicked Local district has already been awarded $3.5 million in grants t help cover the costs.

According to Verdone, the state is encouraging the creation of regional districts with grants. Officals also said regional districts cut cost for departments. This has led to other towns besides Norton and Easton approaching SEMRECC to try and join, Verdone said.
